Eastern Michigan Fair keeps tradition of family entertainment alive
IMLAY CITY- The Eastern Michigan Fair is entering into its 108th year. A long time by anyone's terms and those year's it has always been about family entertainment and celebrating a rural lifestyle. This year promises to be no exception.
The Eastern Michigan Fair is all about kids enjoying rides, making the final preparations to show their animals in 4-H competition, petting a goat in the Petting Zoo,
watching a circus and eating cotton candy. It's fun, inexpensive and safe.
This year the Fair opens on Tuesday, August 8th and runs through Saturday August 12th. Each and every day is jam packed with entertainment possibilities. General Manger and Fair Manager, Ian Kempf, proudly commented, "There are very few places you can take your family and enjoy a circus, demo-derby, rodeo, and some of the best midway rides anywhere for $12. I know it sounds like a lot of money at the time, but just try to entertain your whole family for that kind of money and I think you'll find it very difficult."
Kempf went on to say, "We have tried very hard to make the fairgrounds a visitor friendly place, new paving, fresh flowers, new benches, improved parking and of course very safe. The Eastern Michigan Fair is really a great summer bargain when you think about it and the Board and I have worked very hard to make sure all of our visitors have a good time."
There is no question it's a bargain at $12 per person, but the bargain gets better, on Kids Day, (Tuesday August 8th) children under 12 pay only $6 till 5pm and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Fair week Senior Citizen's can take advantage of an all day for the same low price of $8 till 5:00pm. With the reduced prices for seniors and children you can't beat the entertainment value.
"When you consider that all rides are a pay one price, and the circus and all grand stand events are included in the admission price, I think you'd have to agree we are offering the community a very good deal," concluded Kempf.
The fair hours are noon to 11pm each day. On Tuesday August 8th, the featured events are Kids Day, Senior Citizen Day ($8), opening ceremonies and Figuare 8 Races in the grand stand at 7pm . On Wednesday August 9th, The Eastern Michigan Bull Riders Championship is the featured entertainment starting at 7pm and seniors admission is once again $8. On Thursday August 10th, the 4-H Livestock Auction takes place at 1pm and at 7pm a thrilling grand stand event, Superman Motocross. On Friday August 11th, the featured entertainment is the Auto Cross Bump and Run show in the grand stand. On Saturday August 12th, there is a horse pull at 1pm and the crowd favorite Demo Derby that evening starting at 7pm .
Please remember the Pages Circus will have regular scheduled shows each day of the fair, featuring clowns, elephants, acrobats, horses and jungle cats. All miday rides are a pay one price, free parking, free grand stand and free petting zoo, all for $12 at the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds.
The Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds is located in Imlay City off VanDyke (M-53) easy access off I-69, between Port Huron and Flint .
